In both online and land-based casinos, slot games account for 70%. There are more online Slots variations and mechanics available today than ever before.
Games have evolved since the 1996 opening of the first online casinos. To understand where online Slots started, it is necessary to go back to the beginnings of the slot machine betflik.
The Poker machine
Slot machines were invented in 1891. This machine was created by Sittman & Pitt and had 50 cards and five drums. You would insert a nickel, pull the lever and the springs would be stretched. The drums would then start spinning once the lever is released.
Instead of the coins or credits we are used to today, the winnings were paid out in free cigars and drinks at the bar where the machine was located – you just had to successfully align Poker hands on reels. Two cards were taken out of the deck to increase the edge of the casino. These two cards are the Jack of Hearts and the 10 of Spades.
First slot machine
Charles Augustus Fey is said to have created the world’s first slot machine between 1887 and 1895. Fey changed five reels to three to automate payouts. He also reduced the number of symbols on the cards from five, Hearts, Diamonds Spades, Horseshoes, and Liberty Bells.
Other manufacturers have copied the machine because Fey did not apply for a design patent.
Slot machines were outlawed in 1902 but the Liberty Bell continued to be produced. This paved the way for Fruit Machines, where the machines paid prizes as sweets based on the flavor of the fruits displayed.
Slots go electric
The first slot machine with a fully electronic mechanism was released in 1964. Money Honey was the name of this slot, which was created by Bally. Although the reels no longer used a spring to spin, the lever was retained to give players a similar feel.
It was the first machine to have a bottomless slot, which meant that an automatic payout of up to 500 coins could be made.
The lever became obsolete as the popularity of the game grew. It was replaced by a button.
Video Slots
Fortune Coin, a Las Vegas-based company, developed the first video slots between 1976 and 1978.
This game, which was originally available at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel in a 19-inch Sony TV modified for display purposes, was developed using this television.
The Nevada State Gaming Commission approved the game shortly after it underwent some modifications to make the system more resistant to cheating. It became a hugely successful machine on the Las Vegas Strip.
Online Slots
Slot machines remained the same until 1996, except for some minor variations and themes. Slot games were available as soon as the first virtual casino was opened in mid-1990.
Slot games have evolved to an entirely new level as the size of payouts has increased. Over time, different icons, mechanics, features, and bonuses were added. You can now play games inspired by the classic Fruit Machine alongside many other titles. Where will you be spinning next?
